Thomas N. Wheeler (Raleigh, NC):I think it will be difficult and perhaps impossible to get good maximum zoom images with excellent detail on very cloudy and overcast days or in other low light level situations. The HX300 in such conditions will require ISO's higher than 800 in such situations for maximum zoom images and the result will be more image noise than I would find acceptable.
Douglas W. McKeehen (Seattle):That purply fringe line you sometimes got on the edges of your subject, or that white glare that seemed almost neon in brightness on a sunny day? Gone. That problem with focusing on a fast moving object? Gone
PhotoGraphics (Arizona):As I said, I'll avoid getting techie in this review; there are well-established resources for that. Nor will I republish the specs which can be found at the Sony website or compare a consumer-grade camera with a $5000 professional DSLR. Just a real-life user report that I hope will help you decide if this model is what you're looking for.

Sony DSC-W730/L 16.1 MP Coupon
Jeff Kraus (Orlando, FL USA) :The DSC-W730 contains a 16.1 megapixel sensor in the 1/2.3" format (about 28 square millimeters, smaller than a fingernail). The obvious drawback here is noise. The more pixels you cram into a small area, the more digital noise that will be evident in the resulting file.
Paulette L. Hand "sixhands" (Williamstown, NJ):I love my new Sony digital camera. So many people are just using their phones for pictures, but I like an actual camera and this one fits the bill perfectly. It is small enough to slide into a pocket, but the quality of the pictures is great. The screen is large and very easy to use
Nerd Alert (USA):I do not own a DSLR, and I have never purchased a fancy camera. My cameras have always been in the same price range as the Sony DSC-W730, but that is not so bad any more. Some companies are making startlingly good cameras for the budget point-and-shoot crowd. Is Sony's new contender worthy of the competition

Sony XA-R800C Coupon
James Kotlarz:This little camera has a wide viewing angle making it easy to see everything behind you. The image it sends to my Pioneer 3300BT radio is short of amazing. It's clear both day and night. At night it's lit up like you have bright lights shining out of it. I actually turned it on and went to the rear to see if lights were on because the view is that bright
Darren Mortensen :The SONY XA-R800C camera was purchased to be used on a new Nissan NV2500 HD High Top Van with a Sonar Assisted Backing System
Percy Chow "Ranter" (Dublin, CA):Product was easy to install and works as advertised. The only thing I'd want is a longer harness between the camera and the control box. It was clearly made to be used on a car or SUV, not a truck. The ~3m long harness barely makes it into the rear of my cab (and I only have a 5.5' bed).

Jeff Kraus (Orlando, FL USA): The obvious drawback here is noise. The more pixels you cram into a small area, the more digital noise that will be evident in the resulting file. On its own, that's a reduction in quality that negates the need for such a dense sensor; who cares about the extra megapixels if you're not getting any more actual information, just noise
Katharena M. Eiermann "Existential Diva -- Pr... (1,000 miles from Nowhere...):I might suggest, the first thing one does, before anything else -- attach the, longer than normal, wrist strap (included). Wouldn't want to, accidently, drop (*shudders at the thought*) your new Sony 16.1 MP Digital Camera before having the chance to fully explore all the bells-and-whistles.
L. Steiner (nj):I am not a photographer, and I don't understand very well all of the differences between different models and brands. I just want an easy to use camera that takes clear pictures, and this camera does it pretty well. It also takes very good videos. I love the small size and solid feel and how quickly it turns on and is ready to go. I also appreciate the rechargeable battery, which for my purposes lasts a long time

Kindle queen "Jay":Besides getting a wonderful camera, it came with all kinds of accessories for a great price. Delivery was fast and the camera arrived safely. As far as the camera goes, it has so many bells and whistles that I am still trying to figure out. The only disappointment with the camera is the viewfinder.
Dr. Johnson C. Philip "Author of over 100 boo... (India):I am a compulsive photographer, and started shooting people and objects when I was 15. A friend presented me with my first digital camera when I was 45, and life has never been the same again. That was Sony Mavica, and it used 3.5 inch floppy disks to store pictures. The highest resolution was only 1.2 mega pixels, but with its 16x optical magnification it did wonders for me.
Judith Blair:Live in a seaside community so as soon as I received my camera I headed out to try it. Took pictures of ospray up in their nests on top of telephone poles, beach roses on the bush, the lighthouse surrounded by fog, boats coming into port, deer feeding on roadside. All pictures were all stellar quality

Mark Berela (Duke City, NM):If you want a low-cost, decent point and shoot, this is a good choice, particularly if you want to stay in easy mode most of the time. If you end up loving photography, or if you are already an experienced photographer, this camera will feel light on features and customization options pretty quickly
A. Dent "Aragorn" (Minas Anor, GD):I got this camera on sale for $65 and think it's definitely worth what I paid for it. At the retail price of $98, I think it's an okay buy, but I probably would not pay that much for it. This is an entry-level camera with a handful of special effects. If you're looking for a fancier camera that takes sharper photos
Buffy (Sunnydale) :Previous Sonys I've had were almost instantaneous in showing the picture on the screen. Still this is recommended because the picture quality is good even using auto settings making this a solid point and shoot. 4 stars out of 5.

anonymous "anonymous" (United States):Ever since the HX5V, the HX handheld series has seen improvement year after year. The HX50V is no exception. It now features 30X zoom, 400 battery shot life and retains the amazing video quality.
Eager Beaver :I bought a Sony HX9V a few years ago and when I saw the announcement for the HX50V with its 30x zoom, I thought: "Upgrade time has arrived." The delivery van showed up yesterday and I gave the camera a thorough test drive today. There is good news and bad news. Let's get the bad news over first.
Lon Townsend:I can not describe all of the features, but for this price you do not have to go any further. I had one problem with the speed between taking pictures if the camera was on auto mode. This mode fixes any errors, blurs, etc and it gives you a clean sharp great image.
